1. Why is the center named Leavitt's Mill Free Health Center?
Leavitt's Mill Free Health Center, located in rural Buxton, Maine, is named after a local historic site, Leavitt's Mill. Built in 1781, Leavitt's Mill was a grist and saw mill, serving the local community. The mill was destroyed some time ago (likely by floods) but the legacy lives on in the descendents of the millwright who live in the area. Like the gristmills of days gone by, Leavitt's Mill Health Center was built by the community to serve the needs of local folks.
